This browser can’t scan devices

  • Try the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
  • If you’re in an in-app browser, open this page in your main browser instead.

Helpful guide: Unblock camera and microphone permissions.

Ready to scan your devices

Click Scan devices. If names look generic, click Reveal names to grant permission and show labels.

How this test works

We use the MediaDevices enumerateDevices API to list available inputs and outputs. If you grant permission, browsers can show device labels.

  • Scanning lists microphones, cameras, and audio output devices when available.
  • Granting permission helps reveal device names; we stop the stream immediately after.

Troubleshooting

  • Plug in the device first, then click Rescan so the browser sees the updated list.
  • If permission is blocked, click the lock icon and allow Microphone and Camera, then reload.
  • Close Zoom/Teams/Meet/OBS if they’re holding the camera or mic, then retry.
  • On macOS and Windows, confirm browser access is allowed in privacy settings.

Quick steps

  • Click Scan devices to list what your browser can see.
  • If names look generic, click Reveal names and allow permissions.
  • Rescan after plugging in a USB headset, webcam, or audio interface.
  • Open the specific tool pages to run deeper tests on each device.

When to use this tool

  • When your meeting app can’t find your mic or camera and you want a quick browser-level check.
  • After connecting a new webcam, headset, or USB audio device.
  • Before calls to confirm the right devices are present and detectable.

Safety and privacy

  • Nothing is uploaded; this page only lists devices available to your browser.
  • Permission can be revoked anytime via the lock icon in your browser.

FAQ

Why are device names blank or generic?

Most browsers hide device labels until you grant mic/camera permission. Click Reveal names to allow access and refresh the list.

Does this test record audio or video?

No. It only requests permission briefly to reveal device labels, then stops the stream. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Will I see speakers listed?

Often yes. Browsers typically list audio output devices (speakers/headphones), but some platforms may limit output selection.

What if no devices show up?

Check OS privacy settings, connect the device (USB headset/webcam), and close other apps that might be using it. Then rescan.
