DevicePrep™

Privacy

Privacy policy

DevicePrep runs entirely in your browser. This page explains what limited data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Transport security (HTTPS)

  • DevicePrep is served over HTTPS (TLS) to protect traffic between your browser and our servers.
  • To view the SSL/TLS certificate, click the lock icon in your browser’s address bar and open the certificate/security details.
  • If you ever see http:// for DevicePrep, switch to https://deviceprep.com.

Core tests run locally

  • Microphone, camera, speaker, keyboard, mouse, and screen checks run in your browser and are meant to be inspected by you in real time.
  • We do not upload raw audio, video, keystrokes, or screen content from these tests.
  • Your browser will always prompt for access before a tool can use your microphone or camera.

Telemetry and reliability logs (minimal)

  • We may log high-level, non-sensitive events to improve reliability (for example: a tool started/finished, or an error occurred).
  • Some tools may record summary performance metrics (example: ping/jitter results) so we can detect regressions and fix bugs.
  • These logs can include the page URL, timestamp, and basic browser information — but not your audio/video content.

Optional analytics (cookies/telemetry consent)

  • We use optional analytics to understand which pages and tools are helpful and where users get stuck.
  • Analytics scripts load only after you accept telemetry in the cookie banner.
  • Your choice is saved in browser storage (key: `rd-consent`). You can clear it at any time to re-prompt.

Third parties

  • Network tests may fetch a small file from third-party infrastructure (example: Cloudflare) to estimate throughput.
  • If enabled, analytics and error monitoring providers process limited event data (example: page path and error traces).
  • We do not sell personal information.

Privacy rights (GDPR/CCPA)

  • Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, or deletion of certain personal data.
  • To make a privacy request, email [email protected] with the details of what you’re requesting.
  • We may ask for reasonable verification before processing a request.

Retention

  • Aggregated analytics and reliability metrics may be retained to track long-term performance trends.
  • Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request.
  • You can request deletion of support correspondence at any time.

Your choices

  • Decline optional analytics in the cookie banner.
  • Clear site data for deviceprep.com to remove stored consent and site permissions.
  • Prefer not to grant mic/camera access? You can still use many pages (and guides) without running device tests.
