How to Fix Microphone Buzzing Noise

MicrophoneBy Simone Park2026-03-21

A persistent buzzing from your microphone is usually caused by electrical interference or a ground loop. USB mics plugged into front-panel ports are especially prone to this because front-panel USB runs near noisy components. Try plugging into a rear USB port directly on the motherboard. Keep mic cables away from power cables, monitors, and speakers. If the buzz is a consistent hum at 50Hz or 60Hz, you have a ground loop — a USB ground loop isolator (about $10) often fixes it. For 3.5mm analog mics, the cable acts as an antenna for interference: switch to a shorter, shielded cable or upgrade to a USB mic. On laptops, the buzz sometimes appears when charging — try unplugging the charger briefly to test. In your OS, disable any "microphone boost" or "audio enhancement" features, as these amplify noise along with your voice.
