Test 10-15 minutes before the interview so you have time to fix problems. Open an online mic test and speak at your normal interview volume — verify the waveform responds and the level is healthy (not too quiet, not clipping). Record a short clip and play it back to check for static, echo, or background noise. Then open the interview platform (Zoom, Teams, or Meet) and verify the same mic is selected in its audio settings. Do a test call if the platform supports it. Use headphones to prevent echo and ensure clear two-way audio. Close all other apps, especially those that use the mic (Discord, OBS). Mute desktop notifications. Position your mic close to your mouth and test in the same room and position you'll use for the interview. Have a backup plan: keep the meeting link on your phone in case your computer audio fails.
