To test your mic in a browser, open any online microphone test page and click Allow when the browser asks for microphone permission. You should see a waveform or level meter that responds to your voice. If nothing happens, click the padlock icon in the address bar and check that microphone is set to Allow. Make sure you're on an HTTPS page — browsers block mic access on HTTP. If the wrong mic is being used, click the device dropdown in the test tool or go to your browser's settings: in Chrome, visit chrome://settings/content/microphone to set the default. Close other tabs or apps that might be using the mic. Test in an incognito window to rule out extension interference. This works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
