How to Fix Wi-Fi Dropping During Video Calls

Network & InternetBy Simone Park2026-04-03

Wi-Fi drops during calls are caused by weak signal, channel congestion, or router firmware bugs. Move closer to your router — each wall between you and the router significantly weakens the signal. Switch from the 2.4GHz band to 5GHz for less interference (shorter range but faster and more stable). Check if your Wi-Fi channel is congested: use a Wi-Fi analyzer app and switch your router to the least-crowded channel. Update your router's firmware — manufacturers frequently fix stability bugs. Restart your router before important calls. If drops happen consistently at certain times, a neighbor's network might be interfering — changing channels or upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 helps. For a permanent fix, use a powerline Ethernet adapter or mesh Wi-Fi system to get a stable connection in your workspace. Avoid microwave ovens and baby monitors near your workspace, as they interfere with 2.4GHz.
