What Internet Speed Do I Need for Zoom?

Network & InternetBy Simone Park2026-03-16

Zoom recommends at least 3.8 Mbps upload and 3.0 Mbps download for HD (1080p) group video calls. For standard 720p group calls, you need about 2.6 Mbps up and 1.8 Mbps down. For 1-on-1 calls, the requirements are lower: 1.8 Mbps up/down for HD. However, raw speed isn't everything — latency under 100ms and jitter under 30ms are equally important for smooth, uninterrupted calls. If your speed looks fine but calls are still choppy, run a jitter test to check connection stability. For the best experience, use a wired Ethernet connection, close bandwidth-heavy apps (cloud backups, streaming, large downloads), and make sure nobody else on your network is using heavy bandwidth during your call.
