How to Test Your Webcam in Chrome

WebcamBy Simone Park2026-03-26

Open any online webcam test in Chrome and click Allow when the browser asks for camera permission. You'll see a live preview showing exactly what your camera captures. If nothing appears, click the padlock icon in the address bar and set Camera to Allow, then reload. Check Chrome's default camera at chrome://settings/content/camera and select the correct device from the dropdown. If the preview is black, close other apps that might be using the camera (Zoom, Teams, FaceTime). Disable any virtual camera extensions or apps (Snap Camera, OBS Virtual Camera) that might interfere. If the camera still doesn't work in Chrome but works in other apps, check your OS permissions for Chrome specifically. Try testing in an incognito window to rule out extension conflicts.
