If screen sharing isn’t supported

Tip: choose “Chrome Tab” and enable “Share audio” when available.

How this test works

We use the browser’s screen capture API (getDisplayMedia) to request permission to share a screen, window, or tab. We show a local preview and read track settings (resolution/FPS) when available.

  • Nothing is uploaded or stored—screen content stays on your device.
  • Results vary by browser (Chrome/Edge typically expose the most diagnostics).

Troubleshooting

  • If sharing is blocked, allow Screen Recording permissions (macOS) or check browser site permissions.
  • If the preview is black, share a different window/tab (DRM/protected video often cannot be captured).
  • If audio isn’t captured, try sharing a Chrome tab and enable “Share audio”.
  • Close other apps using screen capture (Zoom/Teams) and retry.
  • Restart the browser after changing OS screen recording permissions.

Quick steps

  • Click Start Test and select a screen/window/tab to share.
  • Verify the preview matches what you intend to show in your meeting.
  • Check resolution and FPS so you know whether motion will look smooth.
  • Stop sharing and repeat with a different window/tab if needed.

When to use this test

  • Before important meetings that require screen sharing.
  • When screen sharing is blank/black in Zoom, Teams, or Meet.
  • When your shared screen is blurry and you want to sanity-check settings.
  • When trying to share tab audio (browser dependent).

Improve screen share quality

  • Use Ethernet or improve Wi‑Fi to increase upload bandwidth.
  • Stop uploads (cloud backup, file sync) that compete with screen sharing.
  • Share a single window instead of the entire screen to reduce load.
  • Lower meeting app video settings if bandwidth is limited.

Safety and privacy

  • We do not record or upload your screen—this is a local preview only.
  • Stop sharing to immediately end capture and release permissions.
  • Be mindful of notifications and sensitive windows before sharing live.

FAQ

Does this record or upload my screen?

No. The preview stays in your browser. We don’t upload screenshots or video.

Why is the screen share preview black?

This can happen if the wrong window is selected, the app blocks capture (DRM/protected content), or hardware acceleration causes issues. Try sharing a different window/tab and restart your browser.

Can I share system audio?

Sometimes. Audio capture depends on the browser and what you share. Many setups only support audio when sharing a browser tab and enabling “Share audio”.

Why does my screen share look blurry?

Meeting apps often reduce resolution to save bandwidth. Improve upload speed, stop background uploads, and share a single window instead of an entire screen when possible.

How do I stop sharing?

Click Stop in this tool, or use your browser’s “Stop sharing” banner/button.
