How to Fix Black Screen When Screen Sharing

Screen & DisplayBy Simone Park2026-04-09

A black screen during screen sharing is caused by DRM protection, hardware acceleration conflicts, or permission issues. DRM-protected content (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify with lyrics) forces a black screen when captured — this is by design and cannot be bypassed. For non-DRM content showing black: on Mac, check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and enable your meeting app or browser, then restart the app. On Windows with Zoom, go to Settings > Video > Advanced and try toggling hardware acceleration options. If sharing a specific app window shows black, try sharing your entire screen instead, or share a browser tab. In Chrome-based meetings (Google Meet), share a Chrome tab rather than a window for the most reliable capture. Update your graphics drivers, as outdated drivers cause screen sharing conflicts. If you're using multiple monitors, make sure you select the correct one when sharing.
